RESIDENTS in Bewdley are getting ready to celebrate following the completion of the £7 million flood defence scheme along Severnside South.

The Environment Agency started the project in March, 2004, after finishing the £4 million defence along Severnside North.

Although construction work was completed in November last year, workmen remained on site until this week, finishing work on Gardeners Meadow car park, which reopened after two years on Friday last week, and on the road surface along the quay.

Over the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, March 25 and 26, the town will celebrate with the Rediscover Bewdley event, organised by Opportunity Bewdley.

The de-mountable barriers along both Severnside South and Severnside North are erected only when there is a danger of flooding and removed when they are no longer needed.
