DEFENDING champions Barnt Green B were pushed all the way before beating Droitwich Hawks 6-4 in the Redditch and Bromsgrove Table Tennis League Division One.

Pat McCabe and Sasha Grokhotov both won their three singles matches for Barnt Green, while Dave Rogers, Mark Fiddian and Kate Hughes all won one each for Spa. Rogers and Fiddian also won the doubles.

Barnt Green A lost 6-4 to Astwood Bank, with two wins each for Nigel Lawson and Yajati and the doubles, while Ken Southwell won one.

Steve Hore did his best for Barnt Green by winning two games each.

Arrow Vale A and Droitwich Tigers drew 5-5. Rob Watts won three matches for Vale, who only had two players, while John Exton bagged the other two.

Richard McGhee and Tony Deighton both won one game each for Droitwich, which was enough to get the draw as Arrow Vale's lack of man power meant it gave away three games.

Barnt Green A lost to West Midlands B 6-4. Gary Jackson won three matches for Phones, while Ian Maybury won two and then teamed up to seal the doubles.

Jason McFall won two of Green's matches, while Steve Hore and Ian Scot bagged one each.

Battled

In Division Two Barnt Green Hornets and Lickey Rocs battled out a 5-5 draw.

Lickey made a strong start by going 4-0 ahead. Bob Harris won all three of his singles matches, while Brian Askey and Ian Watson won one each for Lickey.

Graeme Farrall won two matches for Barnt Green, while Ivor Anderson and Paul Grigg won one each and the doubles to square the clash.

Bentley Terriers got the better of Droitwich Villains 6-4, after streaking to a 5-0 lead.

Mike Kirwan set the pace when he won all three of his matches, while Peter Hartles and Peter Preece won one match each.

Kirwan and Hartles then sealed victory by winning the doubles.

Mike Langston won two matches for battling Villains, while Russ Evans and Chris Tsang bagged one match each.

Dot McFarlane and Martin Borg won three matches each for Carter Retail, who beat SPSP 8-2.

John Emmett got Retail's other win. Steve Colley and Phil Govier won one match each for SPSP.

Droitwich Dragons beat Arrow Vale C 7-3, with Neal Pickering and Alex Harvey both winning three games. Josh Stevens won Dragon's the other game. In the remaining encounter West Midland Phones beat Arrow Vale C 10-0.
