Navan 38, Alcester Tourists 12

The centre point of Alcester's 18-strong party long weekend in Dublin, was the hour long journey to the County Meath countryside to play a strong Navan side who are a big club in the Leinster rugby scene having several former full Irish internationals to boast of as former players.

With only 14 fit players available, barman Rob Miller donned his boots for his first senior start in Alcester colours and performed well on the Alcester flank.

Unfortunately the effects of the coach journey and the alcohol consumption of the previous 24 hours by the Alcester party, meant that an already unlikely win would become a near impossibility.

Having said that the tourists were in touch at the break thanks to Stuart Whitehead's touch down of scrum half Dom Skinner's intelligent chip kick over the try line, and centre Tom Heneghan's breakaway try which he converted himself to pull his side back to 24-12 down at half-time.

Alcester had chances in the second half but were powerless to stop the young home backs from running in two further scores, which included three members of the former All Ireland u16 champions some four years before.

Alcester lock forward Dave Marriott is also worthy of a special mention as he claimed the referee's responsibilities for the first time, despite carrying a back injury which prevented him from playing.

Alcester return to the serious business of league rugby this weekend, for the final fixture of the season, needing victory at Stoke Old Boys to preserve their status at level nine in the league structure.

Edwardians 48 Alcester "A" 3

An Alcester side featuring mainly 2nd team players were no match for a strong Edwardians side who ran out comfortable winners.

Alcester's solitary score came from a penalty kick from hooker Dickie Moore.
