Fairfield Villa 0 Archdale 73 1

FAIRFIELD Villa suffered heartache in the Worcestershire Junior Cup final as an own goal by Carl Dainter brought defeat at Worcester City.

Dainter's second half own goal was enough to guarantee Villa's cup defeat last Wednesday (March 29).

Villa never found the form that has taken them to second in the Midland Combination Division One as they struggled to threaten goal.

Villa started the game brightly and Martin Townsend sent in a dangerous left wing cross that Spencer Kenward volleyed over the bar.

Archdale had a chance in the 9th minute. Gordon Beauchamp's corner was dropped by goalkeeper Dave White at the near post but Richard Silk's follow up ricocheted off both posts and to safety.

Townsend shot wide of the post in the 14th minute, while Kenward won the ball off Neil Mogford but missed the target five minutes later.

White had to be alert to save Jason Beck's goalbound header in the 34th minute.

Kenward then wasted Villa's best chance of the game in the 51st minute. Townsend picked out Stuart Hall on the left.

The striker used his power to muscle his way into the box and lay the ball off to Kenward. With just goalkeeper Dean Smith to beat the forward blazed the ball over the bar.

A minute later Archdale made Villa pay for their wastefulness.

Ashley Banner's cross from the left came off White, struck Dainter on the shin and went into goal.

Villa heaped pressure on Archdale but the team did not force Smith into a save.
