Church FC 7 Star and Garter 2

CHURCH FC emphatically won the Advertiser/Messenger League Cup by winning a goal feast and denying Star and Garter for a second year in a row at Redditch United on Sunday.

Church deservedly lifted the cup after producing a dominant display of finishing which spirited Star and Garter couldn't live with.

Star and Garter, who had lost last season's final to Alvechurch Darts, contained former Coventry City striker John Williams.

Ryan Greenfield almost opened the scoring for Star in the first minute but he headed wide. Church opened the scoring when Jamie Daley's low free kick beat goalkeeper Paul Pritchard.

Ross Kendall scrambled in the second in the ninth minute, before striker Leon Kandikure walked the ball past Pritchard in the 17th minute and Paul O'Brien made it 4-0 in the 23rd.

Stunned, Star and Garter tried to hit back but Greenfield shot wide in the 24th minute and Williams flashed a header wide of goal in the 37th.

Willians was denied a goal at the end of the first half when 'keeper Paul Laishley dived to his feet.

Any chances of a Star and Garter fight back were killed when Paul O'Brien made it 5-0 at the start of the second half.

Matty Harris added a sixth, before Andy Cartwright pulled a goal back for Star on the 74th minute mark.

Kandikure buried a crisp shot past Pritchard to restore Church's lead three minutes later, before Craig Scattergood bagged a consolation goal for Star with eight minutes to go.
