BROMSGROVE Rovers Supporters Society (BRSS) pledged to involve the club at the heart of the town at the launch of its loan note scheme on Thursday, March 30.

BRSS announced that the club would become more involved with the community if it was bought by the society.

Society committee member Maurice Weaver said: "We think Bromsgrove Rovers should be at the centre of the community in Bromsgrove. The club should be working with the council and coaching children."

The scheme is a variation of the one used by supporters societies from Brentford and Greenock Morton, which allowed fans to purchase their clubs.

BRSS wants fans to pay £100, or multiples of, into the scheme in order to generate the funds to buy the club. Joining the scheme also gives supporters a say in whether to buy the club if it becomes available.

So far the society has raised £8,000 with the loan note scheme.

It is hoped by BRSS that over time the scheme will generate enough money to buy if it comes on the market, or faces the repeat of the 2001 financial crisis, which almost caused its demise.

Weaver said: "We want to be ready if the club comes up for sale. This might happen tomorrow or ten years down the line. I also have to stress this has nothing to do with buying out the current regime."
