AN Evesham man this week appealed for support to launch an educational campaign against drink-driving.

Mike McAdam, aged 21, is hoping to attract sponsorship to publicise the dangers of drinking and driving. He is the same age now as his uncle was when he died in a drink-driving incident in 1976 - an event which devastated his family.

Bill Bowyer had been waiting at the side of the road for his car to be repaired when a drunk driver ploughed into him. An AA mechanic who was working on the car was also killed in the accident in Enfield.

Mike, of Cheltenham Road, who has already written several poems on the subject, said: "I'm trying to make a DVD that will be handed round schools and colleges in the area, as part of my campaign to stop people drinking and driving.

"It's important that people are educated about this issue and the massive effect it has on families for generations after the actual incident. I know this is true because of the effect it had on my mum when her brother died and that has been passed on to me.

"For the film I plan to set one of my poems to music and have a car's speedometer at 90 mph among the pictures, so it's all planned out.

"The problem I have at the moment is obviously that it takes time and money to start a campaign of this nature, so I'm appealing for sponsorship to hopefully help save people's lives."

Mike, who studies photography at Evesham College, already has the support of CADD, a group which supports the families of those killed or injured by drunk or drugged drivers and is hoping more publicity for the campaign will lead to more support.
