DONATIONS instead of flowers at the funeral of Kidderminster woman has boosted Operation Covert by £200.
Marjorie Jones, who lived in the town all her life, died at the age of 92 and her daughter, Murray Cairns, decided to ask family and friends to support the project to rebuild the Scouts activity centre at Rhydd Covert.
Mrs Cairns, of Franchise Street, Kidderminster, said: "Mum and dad always took an interest in young people and I thought the money for flowers could be better used on the Scouts project.
"I read about the appeal in the newspaper. I thought such a good local cause involving children would be a chance to make a personal contribution to help young people in my mother's memory."
Mrs Jones lived in Franchise Street for many years and had been at Minster Grange residential home in Stourport for two years before her death last month.
Mrs Cairns said she was encouraged to join the Guide movement by her mother and as a child was a member of the 3rd Kidderminster Guides.
