THE sun was shining over Dines Green on Saturday when hundreds of people came together to celebrate spring.

People of all ages descended on the Green Centre, in Gresham Road, Worcester, to take part in a family fun day between 11am and 3pm.

Parents tucked into a pig roast and played the tombola, while children went wild on the bouncy castle and had their faces painted.

Councillor Margaret Layland said the day was a huge success. "It was well-attended and everybody there was having fun. I think the biggest success was the karaoke. The youngsters were on the machine all day and some of the teenagers were really good.

"There was so much to do. It was a great family day out."

Sure Start were promoting healthy eating, selling fresh fruit and the YMCA community education group was also on hand.

The ballroom dancing class that meet at the centre once a week used the day to show off their skills, putting on a performance in the main hall.

The karate group and children's dance club also put on shows, wowing the crowds with their high kicks and creative capers.

Sian Gray, community manager at the centre, said there are plans to hold two family fun days every year. She added: "It's a great way to get a community of all ages together."
