OLD Elizabethans completed their pre-season preparations on a high note with an emphatic eight-wicket win over Sutton Coldfield at the Memorial Ground.

The visitors elected to bat on a good-looking wicket but Jamie Alford (2-28) had opener Richard Dandy well caught by Stuart Tipper with the score on 17.

Paul Ellsmore helped add 60 before he was caught at slip by James Brinkley off the bowling of Stuart Phillips (2-52).

Skipper Dan Davis pushed the score along with opener Michael Randall but the latter was the victim of a sharp stumping by Sean Cairney off Tipper's (2-25) second delivery of the match.

The Worcester side's attack continued to take wickets at regular intervals, including Davis who holed out to Tipper off Brinkley (2-14).

The visitors were restricted to 202 from their 45 overs although this total was always going to test the OEs' batsmen. Jamie Boyle fell early but Sam Smith (22) joined Simon Macey (123 not out) to add 68 for the second wicket.

Chris Pearman (24 not out) then partnered Macey to his chanceless century and saw the home side to their target with three overs to spare. Macey's excellent total was off 160 balls in 137 minutes and included 16 fours and three sixes.

OEs travel to Aston Manor on Saturday to open their Birmingham League Division Two campaign.

n Kidderminster Victoria endured a poor weekend ahead of their return to the Birmingham League Premier Division.

They lost to teams from lower divisions, firstly against Shifnal in the Graham Williamson Trophy second round and then to Wombourne in the Cockspur National Cricket Cup's first stage.

Against Wombourne, KVCC lost early wickets with Jonathan Wright (9), Mark Mansell (3), Andy Siwicki (6) and Craig Wood (8) all going cheaply before Andy Morley hit a quick 35 runs to lift them.

A partnership of 99 between Peter Stevens (64) and Nigel Davenport (48) carried them forward before Marc Derrick's 14 runs nudged KVCC to 221 all out.

Wombourne also had a poor start but Neil Grant massacred the bowling on his way to 102 not out.

Ted Baylis (3-40), Derrick (2-20), Siwicki (1-31) and Wright (1-40) could not save KVCC.

Against Shifnal, Baylis and Wright (2-33) bowled well as the hosts limped to 138-7 but then KVCC could only make 128-9 from 40 overs in response. Mansell top scored with 42.
