PRIMARY school children from Worcester have been asked their views on the future strategy of the county council.

A draft Children and Young People's Plan has been drawn up by Worcestershire County Council with youngsters contributing ideas.

Primary children from St Clement's school, in Henwick Road, St John's, and Cranham Primary School, Warndon, put forward their ideas for the plan which lays down how the council will work with other agencies to provide services.

They were asked questions about their lifestyle, what they ate and what they enjoyed at school and had to answer using a hi-tech key-pad linked to a computer.

As well as schools and colleges, the voluntary and community sector has also contributed to the draft plan.

Nearly 5,000 children and young people have had an input to the plan, giving their views on what needs to be done in Worcestershire.

The Youth Service ran Youthink consultation events with youngsters from Bewdley, Kidderminster, Stourport and Redditch.

Malvern's The Grove Infants and Junior schools and Westlands First School, in Droitwich, also contributed.

Issues covered by the plan include early years, education, youth services, leisure, health and guidance.

Worcestershire County Council's cabinet agreed to go out for formal consultation at its latest meeting.

Consultation will take place between May and July and comments will come back to cabinet after the summer break before going before full council in the autumn for final approval.
