LETTING players go is the horrible part of my job -- but it's decisions that I think are right to move Worcester City to the next level.

I agonised over my decisions, like I did earlier in the season with Les Hines, Graham Hyde and Leon Kelly. They were really tough.

This was even more painful, especially letting people go who have done really well for us. It was not nice having to tell Rob Warner and Lewis Skyers.

The reason behind Lewis leaving is that if Danny McDonnell gets injured next season for 15 games, I wanted a second goalkeeper with a bit more experience who could deal with the pressure.

I don't feel Lewis has the experience to do that under pressure -- the sort of pressure that, hopefully, we are going to be under at the top of the league.

People might say it's a strange decision. It is harsh on Lewis because he's done well for us during the past month and improved so much.

But it's just taking us to that next level and that's why James Coates is coming back as number two.

Coatesy is aware of his role. He knows that he is going to be stepping in as cover for Danny.

We would have loved to have kept Coatesy last year. He's obviously gone on and had a difficult season, but now feels that coming to Worcester is the right move at this time of his career.

With that a possibility and there not being much between Coatesy and Lewis in terms of money, that made that decision for me.

It's unfortunate for Lewis, because had this situation not happened, I'm sure he would be part of our plans for next season. But we can't carry three goalkeepers at the club, it's already hard with two.

Obviously, Lewis is disappointed. I'm sure he thought he had done enough for a contract.

I will try to help him with a new club and he's always welcome to train with us. Lewis is a great lad and I wish him all the best.

It was equally tough, if not tougher, deciding to release Rob because he's played every league game bar one this season.

It may look another strange one on the surface. Rob has been a magnificent servant to the club and been consistent all season. During games, I never have to worry about Rob and what he gives us.

The only reason is that I feel we need a more attacking wing-back.

If I had the money and budget I would have kept him but you've got to juggle about with the budget.

As a more defensive wing-back, Rob has done a great job. His defensive qualities are superb but we need somebody on that side who can get past people and get on the end of crosses.

I am looking for five to 10 goals a season from my wing-backs and I just don't think Rob will give us that.

It is a similar situation to the one I faced with Les Hines. We just need that little bit more. I agonised for a long time over the decision and I hope I'm right.

I have not sorted out a replacement yet. I'm still looking and it is one of our priorities that needs to get done. Hopefully, something will be sorted soon.
