SIR - Regarding Albert Thomas' letter concerning the Plough, I too, was sorry to see the previous landlord depart, as I have happy memories of the pub when it was under his stewardship.
It appeared at the time of the pub's closure that an important city landmark was to disappear forever.
I must take issue with some of his other remarks, however. There is a clearly defined non-smoking area, and the atmosphere, generally, is much less smoky than previously was the case - as a non-smoker, I would know! I can only say that the new management has, in my opinion, done a remarkably good job in maintaining the essential character of the pub while, at the same time, giving its facilities a much-needed facelift. As for the age profile of its customers - it was always one of the pub's strengths that it attracted customers from all walks of life over a wide age range. This is still very much the case.
NICK PARDOE,
Worcester.
