THE 50th annual charity golf tournament organised by the carpet manufacturers of Kidderminster will tee off tomorrow and Wednesday at Kidderminster Golf Club.
Over the years, the event has raised the equivalent of more than £1m and it is hoped the 2006 competition will add another £25,000.
Manufacturers, retailers and suppliers throughout the UK carpet industry take part in what has become a highlight of the social and sporting year in the town.
This year's tournament chairman is Shaun Lewis, sales director of Victoria and a director of the Carpet Foundation with more than 35 years' experience of the trade with Tomkinsons and Victoria.
"We have set a target of £25,000 to share between the Furnishing Trades Benevolent Association and Macmillan Cancer Relief, which is an increase on last year's £17,500," he said, "but we believe the support will be there for this historic event.
"It is a great honour for me to be chairman i the golden jubilee year and to follow in the footsteps of the legions of illustrious predecessors."
