A NATIONAL search for the UK's most remarkable men and women has turned its spotlight on Worcester.
The annual Vodafone Life Savers Awards, which is supported by celebrities and also the Prime Minister Tony Blair, honour not only people who work in the emergency services but members of the public who find themselves stepping into the shoes of the professionals in a life or death situations.
The award winners will attend a star studded diner, at London's Caf Royal, in November and the following day meet the Prime Minister, who lends his personal support to the awards by hosting a special reception at Downing Street.
Last year's winners included two Police Constables who saved three young boys from drowning despite treacherous conditions, a four man crew from the Royal Navy Search and Rescue, who saved over 25 people from the ravages of the Boscastle floods and two Police Officers who risked their lives to free two men from a burning car seconds before it exploded.
