WORCESTER Amateur Boxing Club members were in action at the annual Worcester Rugby Club show at Sixways.

Schoolboy Peter Lloyd faced Alan Davies of Walcott in his debut bout and the city southpaw went to work from the bell, using his right hand jab to good effect.

But Davies closed Lloyd down and scored well with combinations of his own.

Both boxers carried on punching right through to the final bell where Lloyd was awarded the bout on a majority points margin.

Harry Stokes came up against Ray Martin of Walcott. Schoolboy Stokes was determined to take the fight to Martin, but some hard punches to body and head saw the referee step in and halt the contest in favour of Martin.

Lightweight David Cuss produced one of his better displays of boxing, but was found wanting against the more experienced Lee Evans of Old Hills.

Worcester welterweight Sean Smith was involved in a bruising encounter with William Wadworth of Walcott. Smith started well, using sharp jabs and good footwork to evade the aggressive Wadworth. But as the bout progressed the Walcott boxer found his range and banged home some big right hands. The Worcester corner was left no choice but to retire their fighter.

Ali Yousaf took on Nas Rafio of Queensberry and both produced tidy skills with Yousaf edging the fight going into the third.

As Yousaf began to tire, however, Rafio stepped up the pace to win a split decision.

Welterweight Shane Smith was up against a tall Dave Bennett of Warley who made use of his reach advantage to clinch a comfortable points win.

Tough fights continued for Worcester with light- middleweight Darren Dav-ies losing aunanimous points verdict to Carl Leadbetter of Penhill.

Light-heavyweight Sam Francis took it upon himself to restore Worcester pride against Dave Bond of Aston.

A measured performance from Francis, coupled with sharper skills was enough to win the top-of-bill fight.
