BROMSGROVE CC face a cup and league double header that could get their season off the ground.

The Boars will be aiming to notch up their first win of the season in the Birmingham and District League Division One when they take on Wolverhampton at St Goldwald's on Saturday, May 13.

Bromsgrove then will be hoping to stun Premier Division West Bromwich Dartmouth in the Black Country when they play them in the second West Midlands round of the Cockspur National Knockout Cup.

Captain Nick Davies is hoping that his side can bounce back from Saturday's defeat at the hands of Halesowen on the opening day of the season.

He said: "The Halesowen result is just one of those what we have to put behind us. There's no reason to panic, as there's plenty of time left in the season.

"But we have a home game coming up against another side that had a bad start and I'd like to think we can win this one.

"It would be great if we could get our home fixtures in the league off to a winning start as it helps with confidence."

The captain has demanded his side make a dramatic improvement with the bat.

Against Halesowen on Saturday the Boars were bowled out for a meagre 84.

The defeat brought back memories of last season where Bromsgrove struggled to score runs throughout the summer of 2005.

Davies said: "The batting wasn't good enough and that is something we have to improve on.

"We also missed three crucial catches and that also made a difference to the Halesowen game.

"Our fielding generally was okay but we must take the opportunities when they come to us."

Bromsgrove then face an even more difficult task on Sunday, May 14, when they go to West Bromwich in the cup.

First team regulars Phil Hamilton and Richard Barnes are also set to miss the cup match because of work and family commitments.

Victory could set Bromsgrove on a path to the West Midlands finals and then onto the national stages of the country's premier club knockout cup.

Davies said: "We're missing a few players and it's going to be a hard game.

"We're are going to be underdogs but I am still confident we are capable of making some progress in the cup."

The both first team matches against Wolverhampton and West Bromwich and Dartmouth start at 1pm.
