PHIL Jaques is determined to bring the sweet taste of success back to New Road during his stint as one of Worcestershire's overseas players.

The talented left-handed batsman is convinced all the elements are in place for New Road promotion in both four-day and one-day competitions.

The Aussie Test and one-day international believes the remarkable win against Surrey in the Liverpool Victoria County Championship, in which he hit 61 and 107, can act as the catalyst to fire the County up the league tables in both forms of the game.

"The feeling in the dressing room after beating Surrey was like we'd won a trophy.

"That kind of result can really kick-start something. The guys have taken a lot of confidence from it and hopefully we can go on to bigger and better things," he said.

"That attitude and elation can really transfer into some results on the park and I think we are definitely on the right track.

"I've signed a two-year deal here and, obviously, winning trophies is what we're all here to do as well as getting promoted -- that is definitely a major goal of mine.

"At the Oval, we played aggressively -- even when our backs were against the wall -- and that is a really good attitude to have.

"I think there are some really good players at the club and I don't think promotion is beyond us at all.

"If we can get some consistency about our play in both forms of the game I think we can have a really successful couple of years."

Worcester will always hold a special place in Jaques' heart, as New Road is the ground where he made his first ever first-class century -- in his second game for Northamptonshire back in 2003.

The 27-year-old from Woolongong in New South Wales added: "I really like the city of Worcester and the people have been good to me.

"I thought coming here was a great opportunity to work on parts of my game that I want to work on.

"Obviously I want to score runs -- that is what I'm here for. The Worcester wicket is a bit of a seaming wicket and that appeals to me because it is a challenge to score runs at New Road.

"I really enjoy that challenge and that is an area of my game I want to work on and hopefully I'll do the business.

"Before coming to Worcester, I spoke to Andy Bichel and he said he had a fantastic time here and he enjoyed every second of it, which put me at ease about coming here.

"I've only been here a week, but all the guys have been great."
