AN auction of amazing lots has raised £15,000 for a charity supporting bereaved children and their families.
Billed as the charity social event of the year, the Noah's Ark Trust auction of promises held at Eastnor Castle, near Ledbury, on Friday was a success.
There was fierce bidding for a holiday in France, which went for £2,100.
VIP tickets to BBC television show Friday Night With Jonathan Ross went for £600, and a lunch at Sotheby's auction house in London went for £450.
Other lots were tickets to the forthcoming Elton John concert at New Road, Worcester; a cricket bat signed by the England Ashes team, and afternoon tea with the Mayor of Worcester, Councillor Ian Imray.
Unfortunately, the star promise, a hot tub donated by Arctic Spas, failed to reach its reserve price.
The black-tie event, marking the Worcester-based charity's expansion into Herefordshire, was hosted by John Harvey, of Sotheby's, and hypnotist Paul McKenna.
Sue Smith, fundraising manager, said: "After 12 months of planning, it was the most fantastic evening, despite the atrocious weather. The support from Worcestershire and Herefordshire has been brilliant."
