GRAHAM Turner believes the hard work has only just started for his former club Wolves.

The Molineux club visit Edgar Street on Monday night for the first of their pre-season friendlies with the Premiership new boys poised to send a strong contingent of players.

Wolves boss Dave Jones has been busy strengthening his squad with £1m spent on 25-year-old Portugeuse midfielder Silas plus the arrival of Nigerian international Isaac Okoronkwo, 25, on a free transfer.

Former Arsenal defender Oleg Luzhny is also poised to sign but Turner claims his old club will need a strong work ethic to survive in the Premiership.

"It's nice to see Wolves finally back and all their effort come to fruition but I guess the really hard work starts now as they prepare for the new season," said Turner who led Wolves from the old Fourth Division to the old Second Division between 1986 and March 1994.

Steve Guinan is still recovering from

surgery and will miss Monday's match while Andy Tretton and Jordan King are nursing minor knocks.

Turner has been impressed with the fitness levels of his squad since their return to pre-season training last week.

"We've had tests at Gloucester University and the lads are showing good fitness levels while we've got our own circuit round the woods which we've been putting them through," he said.

Meanwhile Turner hopes to have the bulk of his squad finalised within the next seven days.

Talks are understood to be continuing with several players. Although a number of players are training with league clubs, that is no guarantee of contract offers he suggested.

"They (the players) are not all going to be fixed up where they are training at the moment, particularly those with a bit of experience," he said.
