SIR - The story that a man is masquerading as a vet and duping local pet lovers is really very alarming.
The dangers are manifest and at least your article will put readers on their guard.
But it is certainly questionable for the police to suggest no offence has been committed.
It is an offence under the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966 for an unqualified person to provide treatment except in certain emergencies or to give minor treatment
to a pet.
It does not matter that the man calling himself Mr Aspinall did not charge for his 'treatment'.
For him to be pretending to be a vet and giving injections not prescribed and required by the animal's actual vet is certainly an offence.
The police should visit the legislation. I suspect they meant no fraud had been committed.
That is entirely a different matter.
