A REDDITCH teenager has been praised for the hard work she committed to raising the £6,500 needed to buy herself a new wheelchair.
Staff at Arrow Vale High School have said how proud they are of Leanna Page, who took centre stage on her state-of-the-art chair as Astwood Bank's Carnival Queen on Saturday.
The 18-year-old, who lives in Southcrest, held a variety of fundraisers and contacted charitable organisations in order to raise the required sum.
The Variety Club donated £4,250 to the cause and money was also made from a raffle she organised at the Green Sward Lane school.
Leanna said the Redditch Round Table also wanted to donate but instead paid for a foldable hoist to use when she takes up a place at university in September.
Assistant headteacher Sam Slocombe said: "We are thrilled that she has the new chair and as always with Leanna it has so much to do with her positive attitude and her own actions in getting sponsers and donations.
"It is also great that one of our students was the carnival queen on Saturday."
