SUGGESTIONS for improvements in Feckenham were revealed at a recent community meeting.

Last Sunday, parish residents were given the chance to look at results from a survey carried out over December and January.

The results, along with conclusions from previous consultation, will be collated into an action plan for the village, forming the first Feckenham Parish Plan.

It is part of a Government scheme to set out the aims of the village for the next 15-20 years.

Survey results included responses from 564 residents and looked at seven key themes including health and wellbeing, safety and security, children and young people, and culture and recreation.

Parish plan steering committee spokesman Andrew Henson said: "Many parishioners attended and had the opportunity to discuss the findings with members of the committee and the parish council. Lots of suggestions provided, lots of tea and cake, and lots of interest made for a successful afternoon."

Mr Henson said speeding traffic was shown as a major concern by 78 per cent of those who replied to the survey.

Emergency services were rated highly, although some residents expressed concerns over a lack of local police presence.

The survey also showed the public bus service was not used by the majority of residents but the village hall was an important and well-managed local facility. Residents also saw a local shop, post office, and local churches as important for the community.

And in terms of housing, 20 per cent of respondents felt no further building was wanted, although a similar proportion supported the erection of starter homes for young people. Anyone who did not make it to the meeting can access a summary of the survey results on the parish plan website at www.feckenham.com and comments can be provided via email.
