CONCERNED residents could meet with police and highways chiefs in the hope of making much-needed safety improvements to a Westlands roundabout.

After calls from people living in Droitwich Spa and on the town's Westlands estate, Peter Pinfield, the county councillor for Droitwich West, intends to call the meeting so that the situation can be discussed and action can be taken.

Residents are angry about the lack of action to tackle the dangerous crossing at the Westlands roundabout near to the A38.

They believe it should have been made a lot safer for pedestrians to cross years ago because young families from the Westlands make their way into the town using this route.

However, Cllr Pinfield now plans to gather people together in the hope of getting something done. It is hoped that the meeting could be the start of long awaited changes.

"This is a long-standing issue for the residents of Westlands," he said.

Statistics show that Droitwich Spa doesn't have high instances of pedestrian accidents compared with other parts of the county, which makes it difficult to build a case for safety measures at the island.

"However, statistics are not the be-all and end-all and as an authority we should be listening to our residents and I'd like to get officers round the table to look at what can be done," said Cllr Pinfield.

"I intend to call a small meeting with representatives from the residents, highways officers and the police to look at the facts and see what can be done that's practical."
