A NEW organisation is to be set up following the demise of a charity that helps bereaved children overcome their grief.

The Brambles Trust, set up in the wake of the Hagley RC High School mini-bus crash on the M40 in 1993, is set to go into voluntary liquidation when the trustees and creditors meet today.

It was founded in 1998, by Steve and Liz Fitzgerald, who lost their teenage daughter Claire in the crash. Although it had enough money to deliver its support programmes, there were insufficient funds to continue running the organisation, meaning several thousand pounds of Children in Need cash, allocated for a support worker to co-ordinate the trust's services, will be returned.

The new group, which has yet to be named, is keen to continue the work of the former trust but the administrative side of the organisation will be run differently, according to the group's spokeswoman, Ann Lyman.

The new organisation will also be "starting from scratch" with fundraising to enable it to deliver the services to bereaved children and their families and is looking to become a registered charity in the near future.
