GOLF: YOUNG golf ace Tom Warbrick faces a hectic summer with county call-ups for both Worcestershire's u18s and u16s.

And it means the 14-year-old Alcester schoolboy is one of the youngest in the county's history to represent the u18 side.

Warbrick, a regular at u16 level where he is unbeaten this season, made his u18s debut in the match against Herefordshire and Shropshire at Leominster.

And it was a winning start for the St Benedict's High School pupil, who plays for Redditch Golf Club. He won his pairs match in the morning and then sealed the county's narrow one-point win when he beat his opponent with a hole to spare in the afternoon singles contests.

Warbrick, who has been selected for training with the English Golf Union, is next in action for the u16s on June 11 when Glamorgan provide the opposition while Derbyshire make the trip to Worcestershire seven days later for an u18s fixture.

ASTWOOD Bank golfer Phil Hodges has booked his place in the regional final of the Audi quattro Cup.

And that means a crack at one of the Belfry's famous courses in August.

Hodges was one of 30 amateur golfers to tackle the 18-hole qualifier, held at Stratford's Menzies Welcome course.

Hodges, aged 40, will now team up with Southam golfer Steve Creed at the Belfry on Tuesday, August 1. The three leading pairs at this event will head to the UK final at the world-renowned Gleneagles in September.

THERE were mixed fortunes for teams from Redditch Golf Club this week when a cup win helped compensate for some disappointing league results.

The club's Seniors lifted the Kitteridge Cup following their 3 - 2 victory over HM Prison Officers. But there was also disappointment for the Seniors who lost 5-2 at Kidderminster.

Elsewhere, Redditch lost their West Midlands League clash at Harbourne 2 - 1 while Redditch Ladies lost 3-2 at North Worcester in the Droitwich League.

The Juniors had their match at Gay Hill postponed due to a waterlogged course on Sunday while there was a 3-2 win for Redditch in their friendly at Broadway.
