A KIDDERMINSTER-based recording studio is offering wannabe pop idols a party with a difference.

Star Vocals, run by Colin Day, is offering Pop Parties where children and teenagers can record their own versions of their favourite songs.

Mr Day, who has been in the recording business for more than 20 years and has worked with Billy Ocean, Grace Jones and the late Edwin Starr, spotted the idea on a recent trip to Los Angeles.

There is a choice of more than 6,000 backing tracks of well-known hits, ranging from Abba to ZZ Top.

Mr Day said: "We make sure everyone has a great time. They rehearse, sound check and then record their favourite track. It doesn't matter how well you sing - it's all about having fun.

"Instead of a party bag, party-goers each get their own CD single of the recording, complete with pictures of the band."
