BROMYARD is set to hold its 'scariest' festival yet after announcing that it will be host to the town's first scarecrow competition.

The competition will be part of C F'est 2006, an annual event started last year. Already more than 50 scarecrows have been registered to appear around the town depicting song titles or pieces of music.

The public will have the opportunity to take part in the competition in which, using cryptic clues, they will have to guess the song being portrayed by the scarecrows. The winner will receive a prize of £50.

Organiser Mike Cresswell said: "I have been amazed at the response to the idea. I thought that in our first year we would be lucky to get 30 scarecrows, but I have been inundated with people and organisations wanting to be involved and make scarecrows, many of which have been sponsored by traders."

The scarecrow competition will be held on Saturday and Sunday, June 10-11, starting at 11am on both days, with entries costing £2 per person. Competition forms will be available from the office on Town Green.

Over the festival weekend there will be plenty of activities to watch or be involved in. On Saturday between 8am and 10am there will be a Bloom Big Breakfast in the Public Hall, Rowberry Street.

Later in the afternoon there will be a fete with all the usual stalls and plenty of entertainment for children.

At 8pm on Saturday the Public Hall will host a harvest supper and auction at a charge of £5 per head. Tickets must be booked in advance on 01885 482825

Sunday will also have a full packed programme of entertainment, with the list of activities available on the day from the Town Green office.
