NEARLY 200 competitors took to the hill at Shelsley Walsh with two rounds of the British Hill Climb Championship being the main event.

Driving the family Gould single-seater, Yarkhill resident Sue Young lowered her ladies hill record, set in August last year, by a further 0.72 seconds to leave it at 26.27 seconds.

The elusive first ladies 25-second run is now in sight and, but for a slide at the Esses, she would done it on Sunday. She will be back at Shelsley Walsh to attempt the run in August.

In the British Hill Climb Championship, Martin Groves left triumphant with another two rounds sewn up.

He beat off Ludlow driver Scott Moran in both rounds and Groves' car- share partner Paul Ranson took third in round 12, as did Shelsley BTD regular and Herefordshire resident Deryk Young in round 11.

Racing in the top class, local resident Simon Durling was sixth in the first round and fifth in the second round.

Shelsley Beauchamp driver Mark Goodyear was second in the two-litre class with a best time of 27.67 seconds.
