POLICE are stepping up investigations into the death of baby Lilly, found dead in Great Alne nearly three weeks ago.

About 100 people have come forward offering information and a 14 year old girl and 44 year old man, both from the Stratford area, were arrested in connection with the incident.

Both were released without charge and they have now been eliminated from the inquiry.

Now an expert profiler, Chuck Burton from the National Centre of Policing Excellence, has been brought in by police in their effort to track down the mother.

Baby Lilly was found in a plastic bag by the banks of the River Alne at Wood Lane by a family out walking shortly before 8pm on May 11. Tests revealed she had suffered a number of injuries including a fractured skull and collarbone. She had not been cared for or fed.

Police also found four bloodstained tea towels, a pair of pyjama bottoms and a pair of size 12 knickers. A woman's belly button ring featuring a turquoise stone was also found nearby.

Police, who are treating the death as unlawful killing, are soon to post notices in doctors' surgeries, playgroups and nurseries in Great Alne and Aston Cantlow appealing for help.
