THERE was double success for Bromsgrove Golf Club's A and B teams as they qualified for the next rounds of the NAPGCC Hawtree Trophy .

The A team took on Leicestershire based Western Park GC in the second round and comfortably overcame them 3 1/2-1 1/2.

Bev Dodds and Derek Mace got Bromsgrove off to a strong start when they won their match 8-6. Kerry Coulter and Barrie Claridge won by one, while Jo and Dave Smallwood went down by two shots.

Debbie Degge and Jeff Rushton halved their match but Chris Wilson and Clive Richards won their matches 3-1.

Bromsgrove's B team had tied 2 1/2-2 1/2 with Pype Hayes Golf Club but Jill Bullock and Neil Wycherley won a sudden death play off.

The B team had started strongly, with Andrea Kiernan and Jack Walker winning 3-1. Jill Bullock and Neil Wycherley halved their match and Alma Busby and Bob Poulton lost 2-1. Barbara Philpotts and Neil Butler won by one and Val Price and Shane Henderson lost 5-4. Bullock and Wycherley made sure of the team's progress by winning the play-off.

In the annual Birmingham and District Woodward Cup held at Tamworth Golf Club, Bromsgrove's 17 to 24 handicap team came a creditable ninth overall. Bromsgrove's juniors drew 3-3 with Gaudet Luce and Matt Williams won Junior League A with a nett score of 65, while Ashley Vanstone won League B. In the K Johnson Memorial Cup Chris Mole and Craig Boland won with a nett score of 67.
