A ST Bede's Middle School pupil has shown his sword is as mighty as his pen by winning a top fencing contest.
Richard Vernon, 11, a member of Redditch Youth Fencing Club, collected three top prizes at the recent Jubilee Foil Competition.
He said: "Although over the past two years I won the under 10s category, this year I won the under 12s.
"During the competition I had to fence an under 14s fencer and unfortunately lost by 10-6 but overall I won my age category."
The Holloway Lane pupil added: "Since attending the Redditch fencing club on a regular basis I have become more and more interested in fencing and competing."
