A MAN who stormed round to his neighbour's home with a knife because his girlfriend was there has been given a suspended prison sentence.

John Dance, aged 41, of Market Place, High Street, Alcester, had pleaded not guilty at Warwick Crown Court to charges of aggravated burglary and assault.

But on the day he was due to stand trial, he pleaded guilty to an alternative offence of affray, which was accepted by the prosecution.

His barrister, Graeme Simpson, said Dance had gone to neighbour Mark Seymour's flat with a knife but had no intention of using it and did not use it.

The court heard he had stormed round to Mr Seymour's flat when he realised his girlfriend was there and it had been alleged he had prodded Mr Seymour with the knife.

Dance, who has been living in Foster Avenue, Studley, as a condition of bail, was sentenced to 36 weeks in prison suspended for 18 months and ordered to pay £740 costs.
