A GIANT inflatable slide will be just one of the attractions at a family fun day being held in aid of the Craig Evans Appeal.

Lead organiser Helen Curtis said plans for the fun day at Arrow Valley Park on Saturday, July 22 were now in full swing.

Residents can look forward to an array of attractions including stalls, refreshments, children's fairground rides, a bouncy castle, face painting and magicians between noon and 6pm.

However, Mrs Curtis said despite many offers from town bands and singers, they would not be able to stage live music at the event because the licence fee was too great.

"I think it would cost us between £2,000-3,000 to put live music on so we aren't going to be able to do that this time.

"However, I am thinking about staging another event with the bands at the Palace Theatre later in the year," said Mrs Curtis, of Party People.

The event is being held to raise money for the Craig Evans Appeal, which was launched by the Advertiser earlier in the year.

It was originally set up to raise £10,000 to buy the severely disabled man a new wheelchair, but when he suddenly died it was decided to continue the fundraising work in his legacy.

Mrs Curtis came up with the idea for the fun day while the 26 year old was still alive but was adamant the event must go on after his death with all the proceeds going to help local people with similar disabilities.

"I really wanted to hold the event in his memory," she added.

Organisers are now urging residents to spring clean their cupboards, wardrobe and attics for good quality books, toys, clothes and bric-a-brac to sell on stalls at the event.

The Advertiser will feature details of where to donate items to in a forthcoming issue of the paper.

Meanwhile, anyone who would like to donate to the Craig Evans Appeal can call fundraising organiser Jean Leathwaite on 401782 or email jleathwaite@jleathwaite.plus.com

The appeal also needs donations of old ink cartridges and mobile phones.
