WHOEVER came up with the idea of a 70s cop show with an almost Back to the Future feel to it is a genius.

Those who caught the TV series will know how good and original it is - keeping your interest to the very end with enough twists to the plot that it almost hurts while you wait for the outcome. The attention to detail is fantastic and it seems to have caught the true sense of the time, fashion and way of life.

John Simms stars as Sam Tyler, an ambitious detective who works hard to keep Manchester streets safe in the 21st century.

But everything comes crashing to an abrupt and confusing stop for him when he is almost killed in a hit and run accident and he finds himself in 1973.

What he is unable to work out is if he is dreaming, in a coma or really is living there now - and he does everything he can think of to try and return.

But life as a detective was hard then - and it was even tougher being a criminal - as the techniques they used to catch them were basic and a lot more intimidating.

Each episode is self-contained so it is possible to watch the series over a period of time or, if you really can't wait, all at once.

In all, a very good drama, a must-see for fans of crime fiction and a must-buy for those who enjoyed it but just can't wait for the next series to start.
