A 39-YEAR-OLD Bromsgrove man has been given a two year Criminal Anti-Social Behaviour Order following assaults on a police officer.

John Rae, known locally as 'Jock', was given the order at a hearing at Redditch Magistrates Court last month following assaults on a police officer in October 2005.

The order prevents Rae from entering any licensed premises participating in the Bromsgrove Against Night-time Disorder scheme (BAND) in Bromsgrove and from being drunk in a public place anywhere in England and Wales.

It also prohibits him from engaging in any conduct in a public place that is likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress to others and from encouraging or instructing others to do so, again throughout England and Wales.

Rae was also given a 12-month supervision order.

PC Spike Jenkins, beat manager for Bromsgrove town centre, said: "We are pleased to have this order placed on Rae and hope that it illustrates our commitment to tackling violent and drunken behaviour in Bromsgrove.

"In addition to this anti-social behaviour order, Rae has also been given a lifetime ban from pubs in Bromsgrove under the BAND scheme on the grounds of his persistent drunken and violent behaviour."

He added: "We hope this sends out a strong message that we will be seeking long-term solutions and that police working together with local licensees will not allow the poor behaviour of the few to affect the safety and enjoyment of the majority.

"With the World Cup upon us, this is particularly relevant and we want to encourage everyone drinking in the town centre pubs to be sensible. We will not hesitate to take strong action where needed and hope that local residents and visitors to Bromsgrove will be reassured by this approach."
