I WISH to thank those people who came to my rescue on May 26 at about 5pm after a young lad on a BMX bike rode in to me and knocked me completely off my feet as I walked along Bromsgrove High Street.

I thought I was safe strolling along the pedestian area on the High Street when he ploughed in to me from behind and I fell flat on my face. I was extremely embarrassed, shaken and the fall has left me with a badly cut lip and bruises to me legs and hands.

Witnesses said he was not looking at all and I certainly felt he as though he approached me at considerable speed. I was checked over by a doctor and the accident ruined my weekend to say the least. I will recover but it is only because I am fairly healthy and strong, although not particularly young!

I now wonder what would have happened if this boy had knocked over a small child or someone who was more frail than me? I am sure limbs would have been broken or worse.

The boy who caused this accident stopped to apologise, he gave me his name and address, but then tried to get back on his bike to continue on his way!

As I understand it cyclists are banned from this area, so the incident should not have happened. I also gather from Kevin, the supervisor at the Stationery Box, who was particularly kind to me, that warnings are constantly given to these youngsters to get off their bikes and they choose to ignore this.

For this reason I decided to report this incident to the police. I just hope they follow up the matter and they try to stop this sort of accident happening again.
