Moseley 169 all out Barnt Green 137 all outBarnt Green lost by 32 runsDEFENDING champions Barnt Green struggled to stake a claim for the Birmingham and District League Premier Division title as they slipped to a narrow defeat on Saturday.Green failed to get the runs on the board in a low scoring match at Cherry Hill Road.Defeat means that Green have slipped to eighth in the table and are 46 points behind leaders West Bromwich Dartmouth.Despite defeat captain Simon Froggatt believes his side can still challenge for the top spot.He said: "We didn't bat well at all and lost the game because of that. "There's still a long way to go in the league and we still have a chance of getting back to the top."Green's bowlers had the measure of Moseley's batsmen throughout, with Gavin Shephard (4-25) and Matt Rawnsley (3-63) in good form.Gareth Williams dismissed opener Westwood (29), while Stokes was run out. With their openers removed Moseley crumbled, with only Khan (21), Piper (30) and Robinson (26) making an impact with the willow. With 168 to chase for victory Barnt Green should have been in the driving seat but the team faded after a good start.Richard Hall was removed by Westwood for 16, but 17-year-old Nathan Newport showed his potential with 56. The teenager was supported by Stuart Shephard, until he was dismissed on 25 by Westwood.Gavin Shephard was bowled for eight and when Rawnsley (11) and Paul Bedford (0) were removed cheaply Green found themselves struggling to reach their target. To make matters worse ducks for Adam Smith and Williams meant Green fell 33 runs short of victory. The captain pin-pointed a change in the type of ball used by the league as having an effect. The Birmingham and District League stopped using the Regals brand of cricket ball for ones produced by Duke.Frogatt said: "Apart from Nathan (Newport), who was excellent, we batted very poorly."We haven't got use to the new Duke balls yet. Players from both sides struggled to get to grips with it."That's no excuse though, because we need to play a lot better. We're a better side than results suggest and we have an important month coming up."
