ENERGETIC Redditch rock band Page 44 will take centre stage on a national television programme.

The four-piece act has hit the big time and will appear on prime time Saturday morning music show Popworld on Channel 4.

The appearance was secured after the group spent a month at the top of a new music download website Popworld Promotes, which is dedicated to discovering the next big thing.

Lead singer Adam Vygus said: "This is the biggest thing that has happened so far, we can't really believe it."

Page 44 uploaded one of their most popular live tracks, The Grey Room, onto the site in the middle of April and saw it sail into pole position throughout last month.

The poll is gauged by allocating points to the band every time a fan downloads their track.

Page 44, which also features the musical talents of Adam Stanford, Elliot Vaughan and Paul Budgen and lists Funeral For a Friend as an inspiration, notched up more than 2,000 downloads.

Adam added: "We are not sure when we will appear on the show but expect it to be this month.

"We will shortly be going to London to record for the show.

"We want to thank our fans for their support -- this is the break we were looking for as a band and so we are extremely grateful to Popworld Promotes for giving us this unique opportunity."

The group will play at the Tardebigge pub in Hewell Lane on Monday, June 17 from 9pm.

They will also appear at the forthcoming Battle of the Bands at Kingsley Theatre.
