STUDENTS at NEW College could be in line for a double celebration.
For not only have the college bagged the honours in the Worcestershire FA's Colleges league but could soon benefit from a new deal with neighbours Redditch United.
Lecturer Scott Birnie, who runs the NEW College side, has been in talks with a number of football clubs and both Alvechurch and the Reds are keen on forging links with the student side.
And after meeting United's youth development director Pete Finnegan last week, he is hopeful some partnership could be in place for the start of next season.
"We won the league, beating favourites Worcester to clinch the title," Birnie explained.
"All the other teams have a football academy in place and links with football teams including Hereford United and Worcester City. So winning the league has been a major achievement for us."
The Peakman Street college beat Worcester 2-1 to be crowned champions and Birnie is hoping for more success next season.
The side will have another cause to celebrate next month when they hold their presentation evening on Wednesday, June 14.
Any companies able to sponsor the students can call Birnie on 572865.
