AN Alvechurch woman will ensure the high notes are hit when she conducts Birmingham Symphonic Winds this Saturday.

The Shaken Not Stirred! film-themed concert will see music director Keith Allen hand over his baton to a new talent, Elizabeth Price, who will be undertaking her conducting debut by directing BSW in Eric Coates' The Dam Busters March.

Elizabeth's husband, Mark, placed the highest bid of £500 for experience at an auction last September, held in aid of Macmillan Cancer Relief. The auction took place at the World's Largest Coffee Morning at the Grand Hotel Ballroom in Birmingham.

Mark's bid for the chance to conduct BSW at a public concert had two reasons behind it - he lost his mother to cancer, but also wanted it as a surprise gift for his wife.

Elizabeth, 32, has never conducted before, but played the flute and piano whilst at school. The concert will feature music from several well known blockbuster films.
