Tenbury 186 Wormelow 187-8

WHEN Tenbury reduced Wormelow to 138-8 chasing a target of 187 a surprise result looked to be on the cards, but the home side showed why they are leading the way in Division Three South of the Crusader Worcestershire County League by easing themselves home with no further loss and eight overs to spare.

Bob Felce and Steve Giles (14) gave Tenbury a solid start against some tight bowling, Clive Price bowled seven consecutive maidens at the start of the innings, when they batted first after losing the toss. After losing another wicket Chris Giles (22) joined forces with Felce (40) to take the score onto 82 in the 30th over.

With only 20 overs left some lusty blows were required. Andy Adams (23), Dave Gordon (10), Mo Munir (24) and skipper Jay Da Costa all made useful contributions as they added a further 100 runs before the last wicket fell with four balls of the scheduled 50 overs remaining.

Ben Thompson bowled the Wormelow opener in his first over with the score on 11.The home side had moved onto 48 in the 12th over when Sean Waldron became the first of Munir's three victims. By the 18th over he had swung the game firmly in Tenbury's favour by reducing Wormelow to 74-5, Felce taking the other wicket.

Rob Gummer (15) and Tom Herbert (21) tried to pull the game around for the home side but when Adams and Gordon took three more wickets the home side were definitely struggling at 132-8 by the end of the 30th over.

Steve Wild and Chris Haston had other ideas, producing a mixture of shots to frustrate the visiting side.

They were on 27 and 30 respectively when the home side passed the winning line in the 42nd over. Munir took 3-29 off eight overs and Adams 2-51 off 15.1 overs. This weekend Tenbury entertain Worcester Dominies.
