A WELL-known Salford Priors resident Olive Smith was pleasantly surprised when she attended church.
Olive who turns 90 this Saturday arrived at St Matthew's church in the village to an early birthday ceremony.
The 89-year-old who first attended church aged four can no longer attend church but was brought in specially by her family to celebrate her birthday. Happy birthday was sung and applause was given.
Rev Steve Tash asked if anyone else present had been coming to St Matthew's for the past 86 years.
Mr Tash said: "Olive still has clear memories of life in the village. She often visited the elderly on her own round of caring.
"Many of her memories have been collected together since she wrote regularly for the church magazine. They have provided us with a fascinating insight into village life last century."
