TORTON gardeners are blooming with delight after winning a prize at the Chelsea Flower Show.

Fuchsiavale Nurseries, which has been run by Helen and Brian Andre for the past five years, was awarded a bronze medal in the floral marquee.

Their 20ft display of colourful fuchsias wowed the judges for the second time as the family run business finished with the same prize in 2003.

The nursery, on Worcester Road, sells more than 200 varieties of fuchsias and will hold its own annual show in August. Mrs Andre said she was delighted with the bronze medal.

She said: "This was our fourth year displaying at Chelsea. It is always nice to get a medal.

"It's a great team effort from the family and our staff," she added.

A former Rock couple was awarded a gold medal for their display of organic herbs at the same Royal Horticultural Society show.

Kim and Rob Hurst, who now own The Cottage Herbery in Boraston, near Tenbury Wells, received the top prize in the floral marquee at Chelsea Flower Show.

They have been displaying their herbs, including sage and purple parsley, at the show for the past seven years. All of their herbs are grown organically in peat-free compost.

Mrs Hurst, who runs workshops at Bewdley Museum, said the award had taken time to sink in, adding: "We're ecstatic. I can't tell you how great it feels. It is very difficult to win a gold medal."
