YOUTH triumphed in a tight run chase as Martley's second XI secured a narrow win over Old Elizabethans (OEs).
The Jewry Field village side held their nerve to squeeze home by three runs in Crusader Worcestershire League second XI division three south, a performance to land our Team of the Week accolade.
In a low-scoring game, Martley were bowled out for 147 batting first, Adam Uren leading the way with 37.
OEs put up a strong fight in reply, but seamer Pete Gardner had the final say, taking the last wicket to give him match-winning figures of 5-32.
"It came down to Old Elizabethans needing four runs and us needing one wicket," said Martley second XI captain Dan Mayfield. "It was a close game and there were three overs left when we won.
"It's a very young side with quite a few 16 and 17-year-olds. I'm only 20, but I'm about the fourth oldest in the side."
The team win a box of six Fearnley cricket balls, valued at £70.
