IMAGINE enjoying these bowling figures: Six wickets for no runs from only 13 balls.

It sounds too good to be true, but all-rounder Paul Jones achieved just that for village side Bretforton.

Bowling what he describes as 'dibbly-dobbly' medium-pace deliveries, window fitter Jones smashed opponents Shipston-on-Stour by cleanbowling all six of his victims in the space of 15 minutes.

Earlier in the Cotswold Hills League Premier Division fixture, Jones also blasted 85, including more than half a dozen sixes, to scoop our Cricketer of the Week award.

"It was unbelievable," said Jones, 29.

"I've had good spells before and I've taken seven wickets in a match.

"But never 6-0 or anything like it. We were all laughing about it afterwards.

"It really can't get better than that."

Batting first, Bretforton were in trouble at 65-5 before skipper Jones stepped to the crease to crack Shipston's bowlers to all corners of the Station Road ground.

A hard-hitting captain's knock, helped with valuable support from Bretforton's tail-enders, took the home side to 244 all out. Shipston made a confident start to their run chase, reaching 68-3, before Jones weaved his magic.

Shipston's batsmen blamed a dipping sun for their downfall, but it did not wash with Jones who zoned in on the stumps.

He bagged four wickets in his first over and faced two hat-trick opportunities, as Shipston collapsed in remarkable fashion, losing seven wickets for just four runs.

Jones added: "Some of their batsmen said they lost the ball in the sun. It's a bit of an excuse!

"During the over, I was just laughing. I couldn't really believe it myself. I only bowl dibbly-dobbly medium pace. But they kept on playing and missing."

Jones, who lived in Bretforton for around 20 years before moving to Evesham, wins a £30 voucher to be spent at the Fearnley Factory Shop, in Worcester.
