SIMON Andrews was satisfied with his progress as he clocked fifth place at the British Supersports Championships.

The latest round at Mallory Park, Leicestershire, saw sunshine and a dry track help Evesham's Andrews and his Piranha Racing team to vital competition points.

He had to sacrifice the first qualifying session due to work on the chassis set-up but managed 10th place after falling back from eighth.

The new Mallory Park chicane caused problems for Andrews on lap one and he was relegated to 15th. But the Worcestershire rider made his way through the field with superb breaking and seemed comfortable with his Honda machine.

Andrews said: "We are now much closer to what I am looking for with the R6."

His next race is at Snetterton, Norfolk, on June 18 where he rides the Piranha R6 in the British Supersports Championship and the Jentin R1 in the British Superbikes.
