DEDICATED Wyre Forest teachers have been selected as finalists at a prestigious award ceremony taking place later this month.

Liz Quinn, of Stourport High School, Lickhill Middle School's Gareth Webb, together with Catherine Lawson-Broadhead and David Butler, from Baxter College in Kidderminster, have all been nominated to attend the Teaching Awards 2006 West Midlands ceremony.

The event, hosted by BBC Midlands Today presenter, Ashley Blake, celebrates excellence in education and will take place at the Ironbridge Gorge Museum on Thursday, June 22.

Mrs Lawson-Broadhead works as a business and French teacher and joined Baxter College in 2004.

She has been shortlisted among the final three in the regional finals for the award in enterprise.

Mr Butler joined the same school in 2003 and teaches music.

He is down to the final three in the region for teacher of the year in a secondary school.

Elsewhere across the district, Mrs Quinn has been selected as one of the finalists for headteacher of the year in a secondary school and Mr Webb is up for nomination as an outstanding new teacher of the year.

Winners from each of the 11 regions across England, together with those in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, will then be invited to the Teaching Awards 2006 national final at the Theatre Royal in London in October.
