A KIDDERMINSTER motorbike racer died while riding his machine on a public road - 30 years after his brother had been killed in a similar accident.

The sister of Garry Worton, who died following his crash in December, described him as a "brilliant" brother.

Mr Worton, of Blount Terrace, who regularly competed in the Isle of Man Manx Grand Prix, died at Worcestershire Royal Hospital after the accident at Dunley Crossroads, near Stourport.

Anne Hill, who lives in Worcester, said her brother had been riding bikes since he was a teenager and had won several trophies, adding: "He was always there for us. He was a great father. He was my brother and he was brilliant."

The father-of-one, whose brother, Brian, was also killed in a motorbike accident 30 years ago, had given up his job as a forester for his own company to become a full-time carer for his 10-year-old disabled daughter, Helen.

Mr Worton, 51, who lived with his partner, Sue, 43, had gone for a ride on his Yamaha bike at around 2pm on December 11 and was travelling towards Great Witley on the A451 when the accident happened.

Stourport Coroner's Court heard at in inquest into his death yesterday, a green Vauxhall Corsa, driven by 75-year-old Patricia Darby, of Pine Tree Close, Kidderminster, pulled out of Ribbesford Road and Mr Worton's bike collided with the nearside of the car.

Mrs Darby, who had been travelling to a WI carol service in Astley, said in her police statement that after looking both left and right she pulled out of the junction but had not seen the motorbike approaching.

Mr Worton later died in hospital and a post mortem carried out by pathologist, Dr Terry Jones, confirmed that Mr Worton had suffered multiple injuries.

Deputy coroner for Worcestershire, Tim Sherwood, said: "I am sure the proper verdict for me to record is accidental death. I would like to express my sympathy to the family of Mr Worton for what has happened."
