IT has been another busy time for the Malvern Joggers, with members competing in the Crowle 10k and the Warndon Villages runs.

The Crowle event attracted a field of 440 with some strong runners at the head of things. It was visitor Matt Bond of Sale Harriers who was the winner with a very fast 31.57. Just nine seconds behind though was Richard Malin (Bromsgrove and Redditch AC).

The first of the Joggers' 13 entrants was Mark Cusack in 24th place with a time of 40.02, followed by Stuart Brown with 40.48. The first of the Joggers' seven women in the race was Nicky Salisbury in a time of 44.10 for 82nd place.

At Warndon Villages, runners had a choice of 5, 10 or 15k runs.

However, after a strong start and looking a likely winner of the 10km race, disaster struck for Joggers' Jon Newey and a number of other front runners when a missing marshal meant that the leaders of each race went off course.

By the time the error was realised it was too late and despite a desperate chase Newey never regained the front. Worcester Joggers Darren Salisbury was the first home in 37.06 with Tipton's Richard Read 23 seconds behind.

A super-fast John Allen (Bridgenorth AC) won the 15km race in a time of 53.01.

The Joggers only runner brave enough for the distance in hot humid conditions was Julie Caseley who battled round in 1.22.22.

Malvern Joggers meet ever Wednesday and Sunday. All abilities welcome, see www.malvernjoggers.co.uk.
